Bad Bena, is a Jamaican-Puerto Rican rapper and singer-songwriter on a meteoric rise. Born on April 30, she hails from the vibrant cultural hub of St. Ann, Jamaica, with rich roots in Puerto Rico. Her father, Christopher González, OD, was a celebrated fine artist, and her mother, Champayne Clarke-González, transitioned from a successful dance career to become an established fitness instructor.
Bad Bena’s performance journey began at age 8 with her three sisters, Asha, Christina, and Nailah González, in the CANA dance group formed by their mother. She later honed her skills performing with the Latin cabaret group 'Hah-R-Mony' and the renowned dance group and fashion house Uzuri International. Her sister, Christina 'Chriss Choreo,' also went on to gaining fame as a leading dancer in the dancehall and carnival scenes.
In December 2023, Bad Bena released her debut EP, ‘Bad Like Bena,’ a dynamic blend of rap, drill, and hip hop, infused with English, Jamaican patois, and Spanish. She’s now making waves in the dancehall genre with her infectious debut track ‘Know Me From Where,’ a nostalgic nod to 90s vibes.
Beyond music, Bad Bena explores modelling, fashion, and textile design. As a graduate of the prestigious University of the Arts London: Central Saint Martins, where she specialised in textile print for fashion, she has assisted celebrity fashion stylists for musicians and fashion brands. This diverse creative background enhances her music, bringing a unique and innovative perspective to her sound.
